When you make purchases at places like gas stations, restaurants, hotels, or car rental agencies, an authorization hold may be placed on your account for an amount other than the actual total cost. This hold covers potential additional charges, like tips or fees. This amount may be more or less than the actual total cost.
Once the transaction is fully processed, the transaction is adjusted to reflect the actual cost. If the actual cost is less than the hold, the difference will be credited to your account. Alternatively, if the cost is more than the hold, the difference will be debited from your account.
There’s no action required on your part to resolve a hold as the funds will be settled once the hold expires, usually within a week.
